Why did I call my mother … Catherine?

March 25, 2012

At workshop, in my creative non-fiction course; my essay on memoir … that’s what everyone wanted to know … why did I call her by the name her mother gave her?

I’ve never really thought about it, I did it for so long. It was a natural exchange between us. like: ketchup and mustard, peanut butter and jam, day and night, mother and son …do you see the connection?

I believe everyone lives by connections – seen or unseen! What would happen if you weren’t connected by an invisible “tether” to this planet? Why … you’d fly right off … end up in “Zola land” somewhere. I’d look up and you’d be waving at me … surf’n a comet.

Back to my argument. Perhaps, folks feel that’s improper, but ya know, my mother never questioned my name choice … I think cause … she knew, without a doubt, that I loved and cared about her … lots. Thats probably the most important thing  … to care about other people … lots. So much of my life was spent … busy – like a bee … gone and busy.  Time will slip right by you … like a comet. You’ll look back and all you can do is … wave.

Make life good for yourself and others … stay connected.

Be nice … you’ll like it.

Thanks for stopping bye!!!!
